Gutters and Your Home Insurance Plan
Insurance companies are doubling down on what they cover.

At Rainman Seamless Rain Gutters we pride ourselves in being a step ahead of the competition, especially when it comes to knowledge of the industry. That means that we make ourselves aware of how your gutters impact more than just your physical home. In this post, we want to share a PSA (public service announcement) about homeowner insurance and your rain gutters .
We’ve heard from some of you that you’ve received letters from your insurance agent informing you that if you don’t add gutters to your home, fix your fascia boards, or add proper downspouts, then you’re not considered “properly insured” if an emergency occurs. Your gutters and any related damage from your gutters to the rest of the house will not be covered. In a worst-case scenario, the insurance company may even cancel your homeowner insurance policy if you don’t meet their requirements. It’s important to note that the insurance company can, in fact, do this. What can you do to protect yourself and your home?
1. Make a phone call to confirm the details of the insurance coverage. Sadly, we live in a time of junk mail and spam messaging … and sometimes a letter that looks legitimate is far from it. Once you establish the letter you received is from your insurance company, ask for details about what exactly they are requesting and why.
2. Contact a professional gutter team like Rainman Seamless Rain Gutters and share your new insurance requirements. We’ll do everything we can to make sure your gutters are insurance compliant AND up to code.
3. It may cost a little money to make sure your gutters are homeowner insurance compliant but doing so will ease frustrations and confusion down the road when (hopefully this is an “if”!) an emergency occurs.
4. If you’re planning new construction or looking to add gutters to your roofline for the first time, we recommend you make a call to your insurance agent prior to getting your gutter quote. Be proactive rather than reactive! Arm yourselves with the knowledge of what gutter types are covered and why, and then work with your chosen gutter installation company to meet those requirements.
