Getting The Right Drip Edge
A new roof is a big investment and a drip edge is how you make sure the end-product is built for success and the long-haul.

Your roof protects your home from moisture, debris, pests, and animals. It keeps you dry in the rain, warm in the cold, and cool (hopefully!) in the summer months. But a good roof isn’t a great roof unless it’s protected by a strong drip edge.
A drip edge is the connecting point where your roof and flashing mesh and seal. Flashing is used by roofers, brick layers, and rain gutter installers like Rainman Seamless Rain Gutters to divert water from unwanted areas into the gutters and past fascia boards. Flashing is a flat metal usually bent into a “L” shape. It sits approximately 2” x 1” sliding under your roofing material and down over your fascia board. This layer of metal provides a cover over any open seams that would otherwise be visible and open to the elements. Flashing blocks water by acting as a barrier that provides a water-tight seal between your roof, your shingles, and the rain gutters.
In over 20 years of experience, Rainman Seamless Rain Gutters recommends G or L-metal flashing for a drip edge. The shape of G and L mounts to your roof nicely and your gutters, and siding, will have a longer shelf life as the flashing adds an extra layer of protection against the elements.
We recommend you stay away from the popular D-metal drip edges because they tend to stain and deteriorate the condition of your siding. D-metal can be difficult to install without damaging your existing flashing or shingles. If you already have D-metal drip edges installed, we recommend you add a counter flashing on top of it to extend the edge so that water will travel a path that leads to the center of the gutter, rather than down behind the gutter.
