Everything You Need to Know About Rain Gutter Downspouts
Downspouts and rain gutters provide an efficient first step in controlling roof runoff, but issues arise when water is not carried far enough away from your house.

A vital part of the rain gutter installation process is engineering where water flows and how. At Rainman Seamless Rain Gutters, our focus is on rain gutters. Seamless Rain Gutters are the way to go when it comes to protecting your home from excessive water infiltration and damage. To do so, downspouts are a key part of your home’s rain gutter system.
If rain or melted snow channeled off the roof isn’t carried far away enough from your house, it will collect against the foundation wall or footing and may seep into your basement or crawl space. Typically, one downspout is needed for every 40 feet of rain gutter along the roofline. However, multiple roof levels, sharp corners, porches, etc. all increase the number of downspouts needed to safely move water away from your house.
One way to avoid water-related problems is to employ rain gutter extenders or expansion systems.
· If downspouts are draining too close to the foundation, a splash block or downpipe extender can direct water safely away from the basement or walls.
· Rain gutter extenders fit around existing downspouts and act as a channel that extends the water flow further away from the foundation or footing.
A second way to avoid water-related problems is to install rain gutter covers.
· To protect your rain gutters from the clogs that come from the buildup of leaves and other natural debris, try gutter covers.
· Preventing clogged gutters can save your home from water damage, basement leaks, rotting windows, rotting fascia board, mold, mildew, and more.
· We recommend the Leaf Defier Gutter Protection Protection m —a system that provides sealed gutters, where the leaves and needles remain on top of your gutter system, allowing the wind to remove debris when dry. If you’re looking to install an underground system, however; a landscaper should be involved.
A third way to avoid water-related problems is to extend your downspouts via a series of drainpipes that lead water far away from your home. Please note, Rainman Seamless Rain Gutters does not install rain gutter drainage pipes. Rather, this installation process requires the services of a landscaping company.
·Drainage pipe installation requires the extending of downspouts into a 4-inch-diameter PCV pipe with supporting elbows, T-fittings, couplings, and adapters.
· The PVC pipe connects to the rain gutter downspout.
· A channel is created that is ultimately buried underground.
· The channel deposits water 7 to 10 feet away from the house.
· Clogs can occur, so it is important to regularly check the rain gutter outlet—where the gutter meets the downspout—for twigs, leaves, etc.
Rain gutter downspout extenders are a simple DIY project, but the installation of a drainpipe system is a bit more involved. No matter what you decide, never connect the downspout to a municipal water system; and be courteous—do not place the channels to allow water to drain onto a neighbor’s property.
