5 Tips to Get Your Home Ready for Spring

There’s something special about that springtime feeling. With the weather warming up and flowers blooming, it’s a great time to get outdoors and soak up the sun. It’s also the perfect time to tackle some spring cleaning. If you’re ready to clear out and clean up, we’ve got five tips to transform your home in no time.
Number One: Clean out the Rain Gutters
April showers bring May flowers, so it's a good idea to prepare for precipitation, especially if you live in the Spokane/Northern Idaho area. When working on rain gutters, it's always best to enlist the help of a buddy for safety reasons. Then, you'll want to start with an extendable ladder and place it on an even surface. Cover the ground with a tarp to collect excess waste, then get to work with any plastic scoop. After all the junk is removed, you can flush them out with a hose or simply pour water down the length of the gutter to remove any loose debris.
Number Two: Wash Windows & Doors
Routine housework may consist of dusting, mopping, and running the vacuum, with little to no attention paid to the windows and doors. Since we tend to see a lot of rain in the Spokane and North Idaho areas, it’s not uncommon for doors and windows to take a beating from Mother Nature. So this spring, take the time to clean the screens, wipe or vacuum out the windowsills, and sanitize the door handles. Glass and doors tend to be a magnet for fingerprints; make sure you give all surfaces a once-over.
Number Three: Clear the Clutter
Springtime is the right time to clean out your closet. Although this can seem daunting and time-consuming, don't let that stop you. Start small with one room and create a few piles. One can be clothing to store until next winter, another to sell, and the last stack can be donations Taking time to clear out rooms one at a time is an excellent way to avoid feeling overwhelmed.
Number Four: Give Your Kitchen a Makeover
Start by cleaning out the pantry and fridge and discarding any expired items. Next, organize your pots, pans, and plasticware, ensuring that every top has a bottom. As you pull things out to take inventory, sanitize the space with a non-toxic cleaner. Throw away or donate any unused cookware or storage containers that take up unnecessary space.
Number Five: Deep Clean Overlooked Areas
We all have those forgotten or hard-to-reach areas – baseboards, under the bed, and behind bulky furniture. Remember, this doesn’t have to be done in one day, but you can pick one spot and work on that today. Then tomorrow, move on to the next. For baseboards, begin with your vacuum cleaner attachment, then wipe down with gentle soap and water. If the area under the bed has become makeshift storage space, start by pulling things out and finding a new home for them. To clean behind heavy items, enlist the help of a friend to get to all the gunk hiding in the dark.
Spring is the time for change, and by implementing these five steps, your home sweet home will feel fresh and sparkly all season long.
