Heat Cables

Heating (or heat) cables are used to keep melting water and freezing rain flowing away from your home during cold weather. Heat cables are an excellent solution to ice buildup in your gutters. What are heating cables? Heating cables allow you to keep the heat inside the gutters where snow and ice naturally drain. A heating cable uses thermostatic controls—that won’t overheat or run up your electric bill—to heat the inside of gutters and downspouts during cold and freezing weather. Because the gutter is warm runoff will not reform into ice, instead, it will flow out the downspout and away from your home, helping you avoid any potential backups or leaks in your basement or at the base of your foundation.

Here at Rainman, we offer Thermwire heating cables.

Thermwire
Thermwire is a self-regulating heat cable perfect for most roofs, gutters, and downspouts. The wire can be applied anywhere melting snow and ice can penetrate the roof surface. In a self-regulating heat cable, the core becomes more conductive during colder conditions, therefore the wattage use will increase in response to the cold. These cables are ideal for freeze protection during the winter.

When should you install heat cables?

Spring is the perfect time to get heat cables installed in your gutters. Additionally, getting heat cables installed in early fall works well, but you’ll want to get on our installation schedule by mid-summer to make it happen. Acting early ensures that you are ready for next winter’s icy conditions. Be proactive!
