Leaf and Needle Protection Systems
All Leaf and Needle Protection Systems are not created equal! Knowing more about the products can help you in selecting a quality leaf and needle protection system.
You may be looking for a way to stop getting on a ladder and having to clean your rain gutters again, and after looking into the marketplace you find more than 50 different products, all claiming to keep your gutters clean and free from debris.
There are lots of options, from plastics to metal products that snap on, snap around, go under your roof shingles, work with only certain roof type or roof pitches, or even under certain weather conditions.
Rainman Seamless Rain Gutters understands how confusing all these can be. Over the years, we've reviewed many different styles of gutter covers, just to discard them because they did not perform as we expect for our climate or the product did not meet our quality expectations.
Here are a few questions you should ask when talking with other gutter companies about what they provide for leaf and needle protection products:
Will their product work as advertised with the leaves and needles you have around your home?
Some products work well on leaves but allow pine needles to get "sucked" into the rain gutters. Over time, not only do you have blockage and back up, but no way to gain access to the gutter for cleaning.
Will their cover system completely seal and enclose my gutters, not only to keep out debris, but also to keep out bees, wasps and other nesting insects?
Some cover systems have rain openings that provide a "door" to a dry environment for flying insects to build nests.
How does their product work in our climate?
In the Inland Northwest, we are blessed with four distinct seasons. Snow and ice buildup in or on rain gutter covers can affect their performance and restrict the proper functioning of the gutters. Rain gutters should continue to function properly regardless of the debris or ice that forms on them. Unlike Seattle or the South, we get 3-4 months of winter weather during the year, and that accumulates, the potential exists for cold weather to affect any gutter covers added to your rain gutter system. Some gutter covers allow ice to build-up back under the gutter cover and back under your roofing materials.
Is periodic maintenance or cleaning required to support their warranty?
Do not let a competitive sales person tell you what a competitive product requires to function properly. Check with the manufacturer or an approved installation company to determine for yourself what the pros and cons of each system might be.
What is their Written Warranty provided and who provides it?
Read all warranties carefully. Find out who warranties the product (the manufacturer or the local installation company). Find out how long the warranty lasts and what the warranty remedies are if there ever is a problem. Do you just replace pieces or is the entire system replaced or refunded?
